Introduction European and American settlements through out the world grew from trade relationships into colonial settlements. In the 18th century Africa became the subject of those industrially advanced European countries as they embarked on a new era of colonization. What followed was a period of ferocious competition among European powers for domination in the resource-rich continent of Africa. The tensions between competing European powers increased as they clashed over protecting their imperialistic acquisitions in Africa, India, SE Asia, Mexico and the Ottoman Empire. | ||||||||||||||||
