The Process

This WebQuest is a two week project that combines research, critical thinking, and writing skills. Students will be assigned one of the following topics and must write a three page expository article/editorial.

Before you begin, read the case study on Nigeria on pages 345-351 to familiarize yourself with concepts and vocabulary. You are also assigned the xerox readers for each section of the chapter.

1.The Scramble for Africa. - Read in Modern World History Section 11.1 ppgs. 339-344.


2. Europeans claim Muslin Lands. Read in Modern World History Section 11.3 ppgs. 352-356 .


3. British Imperialism in India. - Read in Modern World History, Section 11.4 ppgs 357-361.

4. Imperialism in Southeast Asia. - Read in Modern World History Section 11.5 ppgs. 362-365.


5. U.S. Economic Imperialism. Read in Modern; History, Section 12.3 382-387.


 
 
 

A. Page Editor (Is in charge of final content of information.)
B. Assistant Page Editors (Help with content)
C. Researchers (staff members at the paper) Compile and write bibliography.
D. Reporters (the lead researchers) Read through material and mark or cut and paste (with citation) appropriate content choices.
E. Formaters (staff members at the paper) Present the information based on research in graphic format.

3. The phases of the project are:

1. Phase 1 - Organization - reading textbook segment and case study on Nigeria
2. Phase 2 - Research
3. Phase 3 - Formating
4. Phase 4 - Editing
5. Phase 5 - Presentation
4. Determine a time table for each phase of the project. You will find a calendar on the resource page. The time table is based on the project's deadline.

 

The Final Product

will include an illustrated timeline, presentation of data on the impact of imperialist practices on the indigenous populations, two primary sources, two secondary sources, a glossary, an illustrated and written description of major conflicts in the areas, maps to illustrate your data, an introduction page, and a bibliography. Use Microsoft Excel to present graphs andMicrosoft excel or Timeliner to present timelines. Use Powerpoint or Microsoft publisher as your final presentation software.
