How did the Industrial Revolution change how people lived and worked in the 1800s?

The Industrial Revolution had made real and lasting changes in those peoples' lives who lived in the industrialized European nations in the 18th and 19th centuries. Agriculture and manufacturing were transformed by man's use of coal, iron, steel, steam and finally the understanding and use of electricity. Populations shifted from the farms to the cities. Transportation and communication were radically transformed during this exciting period of time. All of this upheaval caused people to conduct business differently, furnish their houses, dress and entertain themselves in many new ways. The differences brought about by the Industrial Revolution caused men and women to reflect and imagine. Indirectly, new ideas about society, art, literature and music resulted from the expansion of man's ability to manufacture at an increasingly rapid pace.
